Paul Verhoeven’s erotic nun drama Benedetta sets December release date


Dutch filmmaker Paul Verhoeven steamed up Cannes this year with his latest film Benedetta, an erotic religious drama based upon the 1986 book Immodest Acts: The Life of a Lesbian Nun in Renaissance Italy, and now comes word that IFC Films has set a U.S. release date of December 3rd.

The official synopsis for Benedetta reads:

Set in the late 17th century and inspired by true events, Benedetta follows a young woman who joins a convent in Pescia, Tuscany as a plague ravages the land that surrounds it. Capable of performing miracles from an early age, Benedetta’s impact on life in the community is immediate and momentous.

Featuring in the cast of Benedetta are Virginie Efira (ElleIn Bed with VictoriaSibyl), Charlotte Rampling (45 Years, Red Sparrow, Swimming Pool), Daphné Patakia (Nimic), Lambert Wilson (The Matrix ReloadedCatwoman) and Olivier Rabourdin (Eastern BoysOf Gods and Men).
