Mean Girls musical movie finds its directors

Back in January 2020 it was announced that Mean Girls would be returning to the big screen, not for the long-rumoured sequel, but rather with a feature film adaptation of the Broadway musical inspired by the cult 2004 movie.

Things have been quiet since, but Variety is now reporting that Paramount has tapped husband-and-wife filmmakers Arturo Perez Jr. and Samantha Jayne (Quarter Life Poetry) to direct the new film from a script by Tina Fey, who wrote both the original and the Tony-nominated stage adaptation.

Mean Girls: The Musical is being produced through Paramount Players, with Tina Fey and Lorne Michaels (Saturday Night Live) producing. As yet, there’s no word on casting, but none of the Broadway actors are expected to reprise their roles.
