Johnny Depp says Hollywood is boycotting him

Once viewed as one of the most popular stars in the industry, Johnny Depp isn’t as in-demand these days. Sadly, his personal life has dominated the headlines for decades now and shows no sign of slowing down as his legal issues with ex-wife Amber Heard extend into 2022. Though, he says the media and Hollywood aren’t helping this situation.

In an interview with The Sunday Times, Depp got candid about his place in the film industry. He says, “Some films touch people, and this affects those in Minamata and people who experience similar things. And for anything … for Hollywood’s boycott of me? One man, one actor in an unpleasant and messy situation, over the last number of years?”

Minamata is Depp’s latest film. He stars as W. Eugene Smith, an American photojournalist who helped expose the devastating impact of mercury poisoning on coastal communities in Japan in the 1970s. He compares his alleged blacklisting in Hollywood to the events of his latest film; at the time of writing, there are no plans for the film to be released in the United States.
