John Krasinski explains why he hired Jeff Nichols to direct the third film

Earlier this month Paramount Pictures announced a March 31st 2023 release for a spinoff movie set in the world of A Quiet Place from Take Shelter and Midnight Special writer-director Jeff Nichols, and now, actor and director John Krasinski has discussed the future of the horror franchise.

In an interview on the Empire Podcast, Krasinski stated that “the story of the third one, the third instalment, is something I came up with.” Despite Krasinski coming up with the idea for a third film, it is set to be directed by Nichols – to which Krasinski explained why he hired Nichols for the next instalment.

“Truly the only person I had in mind when asked whether I would hand this off was Jeff. I think he’s one of the best filmmakers, Mud is one of my favorite movies, and so real and intimate. It’s exactly the sort of paints we’re painting within A Quiet Place – very organic characters you fall in love with.”

Although the next A Quiet Place film is labelled as a spinoff, Krasinski also addressed whether it will include the Abbott family after they were the main characters in both A Quiet Place and A Quiet Place Part II.

“Is it going to continue the Abbotts? Who knows! No, I will tell you that it is…I’m really excited about the third installment because it’s going to do something that we haven’t done before.”

Following the deadly events at home, the Abbott family (Emily Blunt, Millicent Simmonds, Noah Jupe) must now face the terrors of the outside world as they continue their fight for survival in silence. Forced to venture into the unknown, they quickly realize that the creatures that hunt by sound are not the only threats that lurk beyond the sand path.

A Quiet Place Part II features returning cast members Emily Blunt, Millicent Simmonds, Noah Jupe and John Krasinski alongside Cillian Murphy (Peaky Blinders) and Djimon Hounsou (Captain Marvel).
