As if the news that Zack Snyder’s Justice League is coming to HBO Max wasn’t enough of a surprise, it was announced last month that Jared Leto will be making his return as the Joker in the Snyder Cut, with the Oscar-winner linking up with Snyder, Ben Affleck and several other Justice League stars for a quick round of additional photography ahead of its release next month.
During an appearance on Beyond the Trailer, Zack Snyder has now confirmed Leto’s return, as well as revealing that he’ll be getting a new “world-weary” look compared to what we saw in controversial 2016’s Suicide Squad.
“I wanted to of course honour what had been created with him [in Suicide Squad] because I thought it was really cool; but also in this, I’m not going to tell you what happens in the little scene, but some water has gone under the proverbial bridge between when last we saw Joker and this appearance. So he’s made some… he’s a road-weary Joker, I guess that’s a way of saying it.”
“I will say that he was really gracious with his entertaining my idea and I told him it was a thing that I had felt like even when I was working on Justice League in London I felt like was an inevitable course that the movie had to take,” Snyder continued. “So when I told him it was a thing that I’d been kicking around in my head for quite a while I feel like he just kinda warmed up to the idea that was kind of an inevitable thing that kinda of has to happen. I am grateful and I am forever in debt to his kindness for doing it.”

It’s unlikely that we’ll get to find out too much about Joker’s involvement in Justice League, but it sounds like it’ll be restricted to a scene or two at most. A confrontation with Affleck’s Batman, perhaps? Let us know what you’d like to see on our social channels @FlickeringMyth…
In Justice League, fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.
Justice League is directed by Zack Snyder and features Henry Cavill as Superman, Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ezra Miller as The Flash, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Connie Nielsen as Queen Hippolyta, Robin Wright as General Antiope, J.K. Simmons as Commissioner Gordon, Amber Heard as Mera, Ciaran Hinds as Steppenwolf, Joe Manganiello as Deathstroke, and Ray Porter as Darkseid.
