HBO Max’s Batgirl movie adds Jacob Scipio alongside Leslie Grace

Gotham City has just grown as Deadline reports Jacob Scipio (Bad Boys for Life) has joined the Batgirl film for HBO Max. He’ll star alongside In The Heights‘ Leslie Grace, who dons the cape and cowl as Barbara Gordon/Batgirl.

Scipio reunites with his Bad Bays for Life directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, who are directing Grace and Scipio for the film. Scipio’s character is being kept under wraps, but he will be the second lead in the film.

Apart from Grace and Scipio there has been no additional word on casting, though J.K. Simmons is apparently in talks to reprise his role as Commissioner Jim Gordon, Barbara’s father, from Zack Snyder’s Justice League. Fans hoping to catch a glimpse of Batman can relax as Grace recently confirmed the Dark Knight detective would be busy “doing a whole bunch of stuff,” possibly making way for someone to fill his shoes in the interim.

Batgirl has been written by Birds of Prey, The Flash and Bumblebee writer Christina Hodson with Kristin Burr producing. It is unknown when production will begin or is expected to arrive on HBO Max.
